Scotts, No. 24 High Street

House. Late 18th Century and 19th Century alterations. Red brick, stone details, plain tiled roofs. Two storeys with attics. Double pile plan with gable end stacks, parapet gables and main fascade with moulded stone cornice and copings. Symmetrical five 'bays'. Gauged brick window arches to five first floor 19th Century hung sash windows without glazing bars: pair of similar windows to projecting rectangular bays flanking main entrance. Wooden doorcase cemented over with rusticated surround to fluted pilasters, Doric frieze and pediment with dentil enrichment, panelled door. Two segmental headed dormer windows behind parapet. Interior : Original staircase, over mantel to chimney piece of south room with Greek fret design cornice. 18th Century chimney piece said to have originated from Whittlesford Hall, an early 18th Century house.
